The first Saturday night I have been to town this year. Rather a novel experience. March 12, 1932

Snow and wind today. Very pretty drifts but surely is cold. Wrote a poem “Song of the Snow.”

Went to Guide Rock and got some new library books. Won’t have to go back to town this winter!!!!

Yes, four exclamation points about hibernating in the Nebraska winter.

Audrey and Maxine came up to stay all night. We “ganged up” and went to the show ‘n’ what “A Holy Terror.”

I love the image of Grandma and her friends tearing up the town.

Guide Rock is rather sleepy on Saturday nights, it seems. Isn’t a great deal of sparkle in the old burg. - October 3, 1931

Went to town (Guide Rock) and found lots of people have interests similar to mine.

I wonder if Grandma was feeling alone on the farm?

Alma's Diary

About Alma's Diary

These are my grandma's diary entries from the Great Depression, when she was 16 and living on a farm in Nebraska. The sweet image above is from a valentine in her scrapbook. I love peeking into her past and hope you do too.

Grandma Alma received her "My Five Years" diary as a high school graduation gift. It allows four little lines of writing each day.

So far she's written about canning peaches, her first date ever and cooking for the threshers who worked on the farm. She also shares her inspirations and reflections as an aspiring journalist and poet.

Hooray for G-Ma!
