Received a valentine from Grandfather yesterday. Guess maybe I’m not quite forgotten.

Grandma has the blues! I wish I could reach back in time and hug her.

Letter from the cowboy. He’s running an awful risk, writing me letters during Leap Year. He’d better look out!

I would love to know more about this story, Grandma!

We aren’t going to do any Christmas shopping this year. We’ll just have to love each other an extra lot.

Alice is coming home Saturday if it doesn’t snow or something. Gee, I’m sure tickled pink!

Grandma is excited to be reunited with her sister Alice, who has been out-of-state teaching. Also, snow in late October?! Yikes.

Aunt Daisy’s up today. Billie went home with my class ring. A year’s our limit.

These drawings make me think it was love (or crush)…

Look at the little drawings (a first):

Alma's Diary

About Alma's Diary

These are my grandma's diary entries from the Great Depression, when she was 16 and living on a farm in Nebraska. The sweet image above is from a valentine in her scrapbook. I love peeking into her past and hope you do too.

Grandma Alma received her "My Five Years" diary as a high school graduation gift. It allows four little lines of writing each day.

So far she's written about canning peaches, her first date ever and cooking for the threshers who worked on the farm. She also shares her inspirations and reflections as an aspiring journalist and poet.

Hooray for G-Ma!
