It seems to me that “waiting” could be done better, staying young before school than growing old after school.

Housekeeping is no joke. It isn’t even funny. I.D.I. and I drove to G.R. Saw school dismissed.

Having just cleaned the stove top, I know what she says to be true.

School starts. Surely seems nice not to have to get excited about it myself. Want to get a look at the new teachers.

As for me, I loved school starting. I miss that excitement still, especially when I see back-to-school advertisements in the paper come fall.

About Alma's Diary

These are my grandma's diary entries from the Great Depression, when she was 16 and living on a farm in Nebraska. The sweet image above is from a valentine in her scrapbook. I love peeking into her past and hope you do too.

Grandma Alma received her "My Five Years" diary as a high school graduation gift. It allows four little lines of writing each day.

So far she's written about canning peaches, her first date ever and cooking for the threshers who worked on the farm. She also shares her inspirations and reflections as an aspiring journalist and poet.

Hooray for G-Ma!
